"Happiness depends upon ourselves".....Aristotle 350 BC

Happiness

If we want something, we need to know two important things -

  1. What it is?
2. How to look for it?

The trouble with happiness is that few of us know exactly what we really want or how it can be found. Imagine how precious that knowledge would be.

We spend our lives looking for ‘things’ to make us happy – ‘desires’. These include partners, work, money, socialising, holidays etc. No doubt they give us a buzz, but for how long and at what cost? When things go wrong, we simply transfer our desires.

If you dropped something, you would not expect to find it by looking elsewhere. You may be intrigued or disappointed by some of the other things you come across, but they would simply be distracting you from your search. Unfortunately, that is the way we live our lives, in search of our ‘lost’ happiness.

We use everything possible to improve our lives, when what we really need, in most areas, is an open mind and some clear guidance.

In order to be happy, you need to understand your unhappiness and that - is the interesting part.

By examining psychology and the teachings of great thinkers, both ancient and modern, we can see recurring themes which provide a clearer understanding of how we live our lives and why. Most people wouldn’t know where to begin this process, assuming they could find the time. They would expect it to be wearying and with little everyday relevance. If only the key points could be combined in an easily understood format …..
